Monster Mesh – SEO Case Study

Monster Mesh – SEO Case Study

When we originally started working with Monster Mesh we assumed it was going to be a relatively simple process. As they simply have an e-com style website, and as we have had a lot of success with e-com sites in the past we thought we would be able to hit the ground running with this one.

I’m Sensing a ‘But’ Coming…

But, Monster Mesh happen to operate in one of those industries where everyone refers to their products differently. This means we had to undertake extensive keyword research, across both short and long tail phrases, FAQs being researched and resources being searched by their target customers. It was key we understood the type of content that would help us position Monster Mesh as an authority.

What We Did

This led us to carry out a lot of keyword research. First we looked at what we thought were commonly used keywords, then found their derivations. Then we started looking for competitor sites to see what they called the products. We also spoke at length with the client about who they are and what they do. While we weren’t necessarily trying to grill them to find out all the various keywords used, we definitely kept our ears open for new words or product terminology.

Once we’d done this it was a manual task to sit down and plan the structure of the site. We looked at main categories, sub-categories and product pages. When doing this we tried to think toward the future, and planned the sitemap to allow for future growth, and the addition of any new products the client may start to supply.

Once we had the structure pinned down, it was simply a case of working through the site section by section and optimising it. This meant adding in keywords and phrases strategically throughout the site to ensure that not only search engines would be able to ascertain the subject of the site, but also any user could find their way around the site and to the products easily.

What Next?

Well, we have no doubt in our mind that we’ve missed some keywords, this particular website will likely be in a constant state of evolution throughout its lifespan.

But along with this, we are now focussing on the UX of the site. At Kangaroo we’ve always taken the approach that SEO is simply one side of the coin, the other site being UX. Getting traffic to the website is only half the battle, we then have to work hard to ensure that the traffic then enquires. This means that we are constantly experimenting, changing and adding CTAs, A-B testing with layouts and options and ensuring that the site is generally performing as well as it could.
